19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his maiden trophy for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents his initial trophy following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court after spring of that year.

Success also means he has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my children together, so to win a trophy is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child her name, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and frequent reactions on court had led observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the elite level was over.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the last five games to go ahead.

The competitors traded service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour victory, seized the initiative to create a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game break points in a tight final set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he secured the title with a shot at the net, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
