An individual who spiked candy with tranquilliser and provided them to youngsters at a summer program in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two children both nine and 10.
The accused was detained after eight youngsters and an older person experienced illness at the location in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.
Nevertheless, he disputed one particular crime he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.
The accused was held in detention prior to a further hearing on late November.
'Sweet game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, described Ruben's offending to the court.
She stated his those affected were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer program which he operated.
The defendant conducted a "candy game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge the defendant had engaged in this activity with the young males "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She stated the defendant had been able to explain this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had suspicions in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "In the summer" his family member had worries about the activities, justifiably.
"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC stated materials including baby oil, ointment and syringes were found, and his stepson contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She stated Ruben continued to conduct the "candy game" with six boys that night - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that time," she stated further.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The legal representative stated the children were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the family member called the police a second time.
She explained the defendant then engaged in the "candy game" in a room of five minors.
